Invitation from Trustee Erin Cranor

I am happy to invite you to an opportunity for parents to help shape the future of our schools.

Area 2 and 3 representatives and I will be on hand to listen to parents and families beginning at 9:15 a.m on Wednesday, November 16 at Vegas PBS, 3050 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121. We would specifically like to hear your ideas regarding online learning, credit retrieval, use of cell phones and social media, and other new opportunities today's technology could bring to our students in their educational paths.

We are here to listen if you have additional topics you would like to discuss as well.

We will also invite you to complete a survey that will help us design the new School Performance Framework. We need to know, in detail, what it is that makes a school great. Is it test score performance? Safety? Student growth? Intangibles like a welcoming climate and a culture of high expectations? Individualized learning? How we measure schools in the future will be determined in part by what you share on the survey.

Please join us Wednesday, November 16, at Vegas PBS at 9:15 a.m. Vegas PBS is located on Flamingo, a few blocks west of the 95, on the northeast corner of Flamingo and McLeod. Sign in at the front desk, and you will be directed to our meeting area.

How does $50,000 for our school sound?

If you go to www.vans.com/customculture and find the column for the "Southwest Finalists" and scroll to the bottom of that column, you'll see a picture of the shoes some students in Mr. Agreda's 5th period Drawing class designed. Their shoes were selected by some judges to be one of the 10 finalists in our region. We now need your help to send them to New York and give them a chance to win the Grand Prize, which is a $50,000 donation to our school.

For this to happen we need to receive the most votes in our region. Every vote helps. There isn't any registration required. Please click on the link www.vans.com/customculture, scroll to the bottom to find GVHS, click in the little circle next to our name, and then press vote.
