Jason and Kristen were selected as the 2011 winners of the Harvard Prize Book Award by the Harvard Club of Nevada.
Green Valley High School's Forensics TeamGreen Valley High School's Forensics Team captured first place at their national qualifying tournament. In the process of taking 1st place, the ForensiGators qualified 15 students for the national tournament in Dallas, Texas, June 13-18. The qualifiers include Soona Amhaz, Original Oratory; Matt Dietz and Jadon Montero, International Extemporaneous Speaking; Jason Singh, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking; Darius Bravo, Dramatic Interpretation; Sara Teferi & Daniel Coffey and Casey Rosenberg & Ariel Higuchi, Duo Interpretation; Sam Shields and Harry Garrett, Policy Debate; Ashley Roberts & Ellia Higuchi, Public Forum Debate; Jordy Barry and Jeremy Chen, Congressional Debate. Green Valley's forensic team has qualified students for the national tournament every year since 1994. The Green Valley Forensics Team won its 11th Nevada State Championship

Since its first state title in 1997, this is the 11 state championship in 15 years. GREEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS EARN HIGHEST RANK IN NATIONAL FORENSIC LEAGUEJadon Montero, Jason Singh, Dylan Kama, Jordy Barry, Daniel Coffey, and Reed McGinley-Stempel from Green Valley High School, NV, have earned the National Forensic League’s degree of Premier Distinction, the highest student degree in the honor society. A degree of Premier Distinction reflects sustained excellence in classroom activities, competition rounds and service projects. Students may earn points in six separate categories: speech, debate, congress, service, district, and national. Only about four hundred students out of NFL’s 112,000 student members receive the degree of Premier Distinction each year – about 1/3 of 1 percent. Matthew has been recognized for his outstanding leadership, academic achievements and dedication to the community. Congratulations to Bradley SnadeckiGreen Valley senior Bradley Snadecki recently received a letter of appointment to attend the United States Air Force Academy. This appointment is awarded to only 1,500 of the 10,000 students who apply. According to the academy, it is equivalent to a scholarship valued at $414,000. Ashton elected presidentTaylor Ashton, Green Valley High School's student body president, was named Nevada Association of Student Councils' Executive Board President for the 2010-2011 school year. He will be in charge of running the NASC, coordinating meetings, helping with events, and most importantly, creating and enforcing goals and plans for the Nevada Student Councils. Green Valley High School Forensics TeamCongratulations to the Green Valley Forensic Team for taking 1st place at this weekend's District Tournament and qualifying 14 ForensiGators for the National Tournament in June. This is Green Valley's 11th District championship and 17th consecutive year sending students to Nationals. Additionally, senior Spencer Norman, a four-year ForensiGator, was named the District Forensics Student of the Year. This nominated award goes to a student whose attitude transcends trophies and accolades and who characterizes the traits of humility, integrity, leadership, respect and service to community. Julius Kim Congratulations to Skyler Holloway from Green Valley H.S. who received a 2009 NIAA Top Ten Student-Athletes of the Year Award presented by Farmers Insurance Group. This award includes a $1500 scholarship that will be awarded to Skyler. Students from the InvestiGator traveled to Washington DC for the National Journalism Convention this past weekend. Five staff members earned awards in the national write off competition. Sage Leehey-feature writing, Ralph Nitollama-news writing, Tiffany Becker-sports writing, Joe Rajchel-headline writing, and editing, and Clarke Knight- review writing.
A life-changing moment occurred when 15-year-old Jordan Orris heard her name called as Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen 2009, an official state preliminary title to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization, the “little sister” to the Miss America Organization (MAO).
